Magnificent Magnificat
A client brought in this illuminated-style print of Mary’s Magnificat that had sat in a bad frame for far too long. Legend has it that this came to find its way to Texas after beginning its life in an English monastery in the early 1800s. I can’t verify that provenance, but the paper quality and stylings seem about right!
For all the history I’m sure this little piece has seen, its highest value is in the heart of its owner.
This paper was a joy to work with. Tolerated several baths and cleaned up nicely. There was just one area of gilding that was corrupted too much to reverse.
But the client was happy to save some money on trying to redo that, and put it towards some new framing materials that will keep the magnificat safe for many many more years to come!
