A Longstitch in Board

Inspired by archival four-flap preservation boxes, I wanted to make a longstitch journal with a sort of built in protective enclosure as a final project for a book repair class at UT Austin.

I asked my professor about it, and she told me that it would be highly unusual and she had never seen anything quite like the idea. I was urged to opt for a softcover, which is more traditional and would be easier. She was right in one regard: that board was unforgiving! But I wanted a creative challenge.

I used lig-free board, embroidery thread, and an old charm to secure the journal closed.
